After more than a year, everyone in Iowa City has seen their share of tornado photos.
This was my first taste of documentary photography, but I really didn't understand
what I was looking for yet. After taking my first photojournalism class in the fall
of 2006 I decided to sort back through them and create a sequence.
On my way home around midnight I wandered in the the Iowa Memorial Union to sit
down for a bit. Little did I know, the University was housing all of the students
put out by the tornado in the Iowa House hotel located in the IMU. Apparently
the students didn't take too kindly to my camera and thought I went there to
photograph (read:exploit) them. Naturally, the University officials just stood
there and watched instead of trying to diffuse the situtation. They didn't believe
my story either. They told me I could photograph some people dragging cots up to
the hotel. I told them I just came in to take a leak.
